Salvatore Puddu
The micrometer is his most frequently used tool and the term folders inadequately describes Salvatore Puddu's knives. Born 1961 in Quartu S.Elena, Sardinia island-Italy, Puddu was a precision mechanic by trade before he became a full-time knifemaker. Official start as knifemaker at the Show Milan-2000; early prized for his Three-blades lock-back folder, today he is assistant chairman of the Italian Guild and member of the German Knifemaker's Guild.

Puddu emphasizes that each unique piece begins with sketches and detailed drawing; he creates works of art very elegant and distinguished that are not only aesthetic in appearance but also please the senses through their extreme mechanical precision.

Each knife has its own mechanical "heart".

All Salvatore's knives, except for the blades obtained with the stock removal method, are entirely made by himself. This includes filework, inlaying, insertwork, bales, screws, pins, bearings and springs: he makes every component of his knives.

Only natural materials are used for the handles such as ironwood , many kind of pearl, ivory, antique tortoise; fittings can be gold, nickel silver, 416 stainless steel, meteorite steel, titanium or Damascus, usually by J.Rados. Each gold screw is being created for each hole, the 24 k hammered gold wire surrounding the inlays, the liners featuring complex filework, the bales obtained from solid steel or gold, are just few of the more evident signs of his exquisite hand-work.

Take another look at the perfect symmetry created by scales of different thickness, notice the mechanical excellence and the superb finish also of the hidden parts and you have a Puddu's piece of art ! His specialties are Lock-back Multiblades folders and recently he built his Automatic model, all pieces are created in around a month-long patient and meticulous work by hand.
